Boxing at Emperors Palace

Emperors Palace in Kempton Park hosted it’s first boxing event this Saturday. With my sister doing the PR, I managed to get some tickets for the IBF/IBO Junior Lightweight Title fight between South Africa’s defending champion Cassius Baloyi and Australia’s Gairy St Clair. Gairy, “Superman” St Clair showed off his super powers with a unanimous decision victory via scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 115-114. Being no expert, I felt that Cassius was out boxed from about the 5th round and never quite took full advantage of his powerful left jab.The rematch is said to take place at Emperors at the end of this year.Other note worthy fights on the bill included a first round knock out of Earl Morais by the new SA Cruiserweight champion and a very impressive knock out by the defending SA Featherweight Malcolm Klassen over Leli Mbilase.I’m really looking forward to further boxing events hosted at Emperors and especially the rematch between Baloyi and St Clair later this year.
